No loafing for The Swiss Bakehouse!
A relaxing place for all to enjoy a break with a smoothly blended cup of coffee and freshly baked food from the ‘old school’.
The Swiss Bakehouse at Hamilton Place in the Mount Waverley Shopping Centre, which opened its doors in the early 1990’s, has gained a solid reputation over the years for its coffee, food and friendly service.
It was bought by business partners and close friends Jamie Sheahan, a former Collingwood VFL player, Sam Vale and James Brain in 2019 and they have maintained the high standards of food and service of the original owners.
Jamie said: “We sell a lot of coffee. It’s gone from one kilo of coffee per day when we took over to up to seven kilos per day!”
“Coffee is the mainstay. We like to think that we do the best coffee in the strip.”
The team at Swiss Bakehouse make their own sourdough bread, pastries, croissants, beef and chicken pies, sausage rolls and pasties on top of a selection of sandwiches, cakes and slices.
“We feel like we have a good balance of sweets and savouries,” Jamie said.
“We also have gluten free options for pies, pasties and cakes.”
The Swish Bakehouse has recently added a range of Greek dishes to its bill of fare including old favourites such as spanakopita, bougatsa and koulouri.
The cafe employs a staff of 15 including four chefs.
“We pride myself on having a nice environment for people to enjoy their time with us and I think our staff is something that epitomises the shop,” Jamie said.
“You are only as good as your staff and our staff are first class.”
The Swiss Bakehouse has branched out into the catering side and among its clients are Huntingtower and Wesley College.
The café is a sponsor of the Waverley Blues Football Netball Club, providing food for the canteen on match days and awards for the players.
The Swiss Bakehouse is open on weekdays from 8am to 5pm, Saturday from 8am to 3.30 pm and Sunday from 9am to 2pm.
