Listen Up! Alpha Hearing Is Lending an Ear

Michael Wong, the principal of Alpha Hearing, Mount Waverley and a clinical audiologist with 25 years’ experience in Australia and Asia, is philosophical about his role in the local community.

“My profession and career has allowed me to help many people along their journeys to better health and hearing which in essence is better connection,” Michael said.

“To be able to hear well is to be able to communicate effectively and to have effective communication is to be able to connect to the people that matter most in your life.

“It’s not just correcting a loss of hearing, it’s about reconnecting people to their life, so that they can engage and live wholehearted healthy lifestyles regardless of age.”

Michael said that “the process of hearing rehabilitation with ongoing professional support can be the difference between success and failure.”

Alpha Hearing, located at 294 Stephensons Road, offers a complete range of audiology and hearing services, including hearing tests and audiology assessments for children and adults.

Among their range of services are free hearing aid trials for pensioners and veterans/DVA cardholders, ear wax removal (including microsuction), fitting of hearing aids, tinnitus and vertigo assessments and treating changes in hearing in a professional, clean and safe environment.

“We genuinely care about your outcomes and we want to be there to support you through the whole journey. It’s the relationship that matters and I know that’s the big difference between Alpha Hearing and other providers,” Michael said.

“When you walk into a place like this versus a large chain clinic or a big box provider you know straight away that you’re in good hands. We want to ensure your needs are met and the best outcomes achieved for you.”

Alpha Hearing shares with its patients the latest technology and research in its field and is abreast with everything that’s new in the marketplace.

“There’s an excellent study that’s just been completed through Melbourne University where I studied that shows how the loss of hearing is highly related to the loss of cognitive function. Over the years I have seen my role move from just correcting loss of hearing to playing a key role in enhancing the health span and quality of life of adults,” he said.

The skilled, professional and caring team at Alpha Hearing, which opened in Mount Waverley in 2013, includes experienced audiologists Anna O’Brien and Joanne Sahhar.

Michael, who started his working life with the HEAR Service, the audiology arm of the Victorian Deaf Society, lives locally with his wife and three children.

“I live and work in the local community and I want to care for the local community,” he said.

To this end, Alpha Hearing are proud sponsors of the Bennettswood and Glen Waverley Bowls Clubs and the Monash Men’s Shed. The practice also works very closely with local GP’s and medical clinics in Monash, Boroondara and Whitehorse.
